09101
Its about time I posted again. Here's some shots of my latest purchase, a Hornby Class 09 renumbered and weathered as 09101. All thats lacking is the small EWS 'beastie' logo on the engine room doors and 'Ivor' underneath the cab windows. I'll have o look into getting transfers for both these elements, although I am unsure as where to obtain a correct size 'beastie'. I'm not sure I can get the writing fine enough with a paintbrush to apply the name by hand.

In the last pictures it is posed with my Bachmann 08, 08921. These 2 locos will be the backbone of shunting operations when my layout is running in its modern engineer's sidings guise.

Update...
There hasn't been an update on here for a while, due to general business with other things away from modelling. However, a baseboard has now been built along with storage shelves for my stock. I've also built a few more wagon kits to go in my engineer's fleet. With summer approaching and the weather getting warmer, hopefully we will be able to push on and get things off the ground!

Pictures in the winter sun.
It's been a while, but here's a bunch of photos that make it look like I have a big garden railway when, in fact, they were taken on a little test layout I built last summer out in my garden yesterday. There are some new purchases - the '66 and diesel crane (built from a Dapol kit) were Christmas presents, and the '25s picked up at the Warley show. 06004 now has a chassis too, courtesy of Kier Hardy - have a look at his Wibdenshaw layout if you haven't already, it's quality.
My 2 blue 06's - 06004 has a chassis at last! note the dodgy bent handrail and lack of horns and other small details when compared to it's sister loco. These will be added in time.
This is my favourite of these set of photos, with 06003 lining up alongside my new class 25/3, D7667.
A more modern scene, with my new '66 lining up with deatiled Hornby Classes 37 and 56, and my trusty Bachmann '08, with newly faded paintwork after observing some of the gronks knocking about in the Midlands on one of my many trips to Northampton. The engineers' train is made up of a couple of Cambrian kits and a repainted Hornby OBA.
Both of my new 25's parked in the headshunt - bargains from the Bachmann stand at the Warley show at the NEC.
Here's my new Dapol diesel hydrolic crane, built from their plastic kit. It was a Christmas gift that has come out so well I've now ordered a GWR bogie bolster wagon to convert into a runner and an ex-'toad' brakevan as a mess van. A flat wagon with a JCB load will make up a nice little engineers' train.

New Pics.
Sorry for the lack of updates, busy at work etc. etc.
Anyway, here are some pics taken on my desk earlier. I haven't played around with them much, they are just test shots really.

Slow progress...
I haven't posted on here in ages so here are a couple of pics I took today with my mobile phone. Apologies for the rather poor attempt to put a background in but it looks better than having my monitor in the background!
06003 stands in front of a postcard on my desk, with the clutter around it greatly reduced. The weathering has been built up to give it the neglected look often seen on shunters who spend years sitting in the elements , the nearest thing to a wash being the rain.
And here's its rather sad sister loco 06004, which is still without a chassis. If anybody knows where I can get one, please email me or leave me a comment. Ebay has so far drawn a blank. It still needs the details adding, for example the handrails need straightening and fixing properly, but as a first full respray it looks alright and the pair will look good together I reckon.
This Hornby 37072 has been resprayed, renumbered and weathered as well. Again it awaits the deatils, such as getting rid of the huge couplings and adding pipes etc. This loco is running on a 'borrowed' chassis from another of my 37s for now so again, if anybody has one knocking about, get in touch! All these locos fit my 1970s pool and were based on pics from Kier Hardy's Website.

Lurking amongst the mess on my desk...
...are these various bits and bobs I've been working on. Apologies for the quality of photos, and the general clutter surrounding the models - they were taken on my phone's camera as they sat on my computer desk due to the lack of good weather in these parts.
This is the latest addition to the fleet of modern locomotives, and an eBay bargain to boot, Hornby Class 56 56100 in Loadhaul livery. I've only given it a light weathering so far.
Here's a line-up of Class 06 shunters sat in front of my computer screen. All Hornby, the green locomotive nearest the camera is 06010, given wasp stripes and re-numbered based on this photo here, taken from the excellent website by Kier Hardy (BR blue-era photographs and some brilliant layouts). The second along, 06004, is based on the second locomotive on that page, and has a unique chassis made from a Bachmann flat wagon at the moment as it was bought as a body only, also from eBay, but rest assured this is only a temporary measure. It's my first full respray and I'm rather pleased with it - pleased enough to be on the lookout for a working chassis for it (I figured it'd be a no-risk purchase to spend a fiver on the body only, and I'd be more inclined to 'have a go'). It still needs handrails, horns and other fittings though. The third is 06003, standard Hornby issue with added weathering and some little details on it. The green loco is my oldest piece of stock as it was given to me as a present to run on my Dad's layout one Christmas when I was a lot younger, which is why I think I like these little shunters so much.
These two wagons were built from Dapol kits which, I believe, are based on the old Airfix kits that used to be available. Tail lamps still to be added to the brake van, before I loose them.
My third eBay purchase was this OBA wagon, weathered and filled with some general 'stuff' such as loose sleepers and barrels so it can form part of an engineers train.

First Pics
These are some test shots I did today out in the sun, on the garden table. For a first attempt at trying to photograph my railway models, I'm suprised how they turned out.
Bachmann Class 08 in EWS livery. Weathered and detailed using Craftsman parts.
The same 08 with a Cambrian kit-bilut 'Shark' Brake van and 'Dogfish' ballast hopper.
The same 08 eases round the corner.
Detail of the graffitti on the 'Dogfish' hopper.
The full engineer's train.
Hornby Class 06 with a shunter's match wagon, and a Lima Class 47 in the background.
Lima 47 at the fuelling point.
